The King’s High-Seer has passed away after a long and faithful service. Now the King is uncertain of the future and its many challenges and the position for a new High-Seer needs to be filled as soon as possible. The word is put forth to the villages that the search for a successor has begun. Now it is up to the Village seers to show their might.

A challenge has been issued; the seers need to create the most accurate weather prophecies in the upcoming weeks in order to be called to service the King, yielding the highest honour to their village.

GAME OVERVIEW

Vedur is an action selection deck-builder game for 2 – 4 players, ages 14 years and older. There are two versions of the game, the Basic game and the Advanced game. The playing time is about 10 minutes per player in the basic game, 20 minutes per player in the advanced game.

In Vedur, players take on the role of one of the 4 village Seers, each having their own way to foresee and accumulate their visions of the future in order to reveal their weather prophecies.

They visit their village townsfolk to search for omens that they can then use to predict the weather in the most powerful and reliable way through ancient omen-lore, rituals and spirit-talking. They can even open up a portal to their preferred spirit realm, seeking aid directly from the elemental spirits.

When the King is content, he will call the most accurate Seer to the court to become his new High-seer.

May the most resourceful Seer prevail!

GAME PLAY OVERVIEW – BASIC GAME

Choose one action

During a player’s turn, he MUST choose ONE of the 3 available basic actions on his player board, where he does ONE action by placing his Shield token on the action he wants to activate this turn:

  • Draw cards from common cards draw deck
Draw cards from the draw deck to your hand, these cards are better then the starting hand of cards
  • Lay down & match weather cards with weather tiles
Match the icon shown on the weather tile with the same icon shown on a weather card you have in your hand. Lay the card underneath the tile. Mark with a cube in your colour beside the tile icon, this both shows who this card belongs to as well to show that 1 out of 4 needed icons have been finished.
  • Mixture of both

NOTE! Players need to move to a new action space between turns, i.e.the same action cannot be used twice in a row.

Finish a weather tile

All players can participate in finishing any weather tiles. A weather tile is considered finished when the tile has all the required weather cards underneath (2-4 cards). When any weather tile is finished, all players that participated on the finished tile get points (p). Move the players tokens up on the scoring track accordingly.

Re-fill your hand

At the end of a player’s turn, the player re-fills his hand (if less then 5) from his draw deck. If depleted, make a new draw deck from the discard pile. Next player to the left goes next.

End of the game

The game end is triggered when no more weather tiles can be added to the central board. Continue play up to the Starting player.

Now count the remaining points (laid down cards and finished tiles); the player with the most points wins & gains the position as the King’s Seer.

THE BASIC ACTIONS IN THE ADVANCED GAME

VISIT THE SALUR

Players can gain up to 3 cards from the Source. The source represents the Villagers that give the Seers valuable information, that they can then use to make as accurate weather predictions as possible. But this process drains the Seers energy, therefore players must loose 2,1 or 0 points for the Omens gathered; the cards.

VISIT THE STOFA

Players gain up to 2 cards from the Source and loose points accordingly.

AND

Players lay down 1 or 2 cards from their hand to the central board.

VISIT THE HOF

Lay down up to 3 cards to the central board, underneath a weather tile with a matching weather icon.

To finish a weather tile, to gain points, 2 – 4 cards are needed.

All players that partissipated gain points, and the player that finished a tile gets a bonus.

THE GAME COMPONENTS

THE CENTRAL BOARD

The central board is where the weather tiles are placed during setup. This represents the weather that is comming. In order to fulfill the weather prophesy, all of the 4 icons on the weather tile must be matched with the same weather card icons underneath. When fulfilled, all players that laid down 1 or more weather cards underneath the weather tile gain the points shown on the weather card they used. The player that laid down the last icon(s) needed will also gain a bonus.

THE PLAYER BOARD

The player boards show an overview of the the players home towns, the names of the towns can be seen on the basic side. The basic board only shows the 3 basic actions. The player’s ready-to-be-used cards are stacked on the left side (draw pile), while the players used cards will be discarded to the tight (discard pile).

The adcanced side has the basic actions at the bottom part, but it also shows the players Spirit actions on the upper part. The graphics at the top is a view to the Spirit Guids realm.

THE STARTING CARDS & WEATHER CARDS

The 12 starting cards are a mix of 6 different weather icons, a long with a joker card that can be any weather icon.  Each card shows an icon in the top left corner. that needs to match with the same icon on the weather tile in order to fulfill that weather prophesy.

The number to the top right is the number of points the card gives. The shield at the bottom shows the colour of the player that this card belongs to, in this case blue.

The common weather cards (seen with a black spiral token in the corner) can be  obtained through out the game. They show the same weather icons, but their points are higher then the basic cards. Some cards also have double tokens that can be used on weather tiles that also have the matching double icons.

THE ELIXIR CARDS

The Elixir cards represent some potions and mixtures the Seers consume in order to gain higher clarity, or  get aid from their Spirit Guide.

They are only used in the advanced game and they give the player a bonus action they can do independently on the other actions, both Basic or Spirit actions.

The Elixir cards can be used anytime during a player’s turn and they are not connected to any other action requirement.

Some Elixir cards have an infinity symbol at the top and bottom. These cards give a permanent upgrade to the Seers abilites, each can have up to 2 different types at any time.

THE CHARACTERS

The Character cards show the image of the characters that each player is controling during the game.

Their names are taken from actual historical or mythical figures from Icelandic or Nordic tales.

THE PLAYER AIDS

The player aids are on the back side of the Characters.

They explain that player’s 7 Spirit actions. The Spirit actions are optional and can be done even before a mandatory basic action.

In both cases, the same action can not be done twice in a row, a different action must be chosen each turn.

THE PLAYER TOKENS, CUBES & DICE

The Player icons are used to select the actions players aim to do each turn, by moving their shield icon on top of them in the basic actions and the weather token on top of the Spirit actions each turn.

The point marker is used for the scoring track in the box lid.

The cubes are used on the central board to mark a weather icon that has been completed,  when a matching weather card has been laid under the matched weather tile.

It also indicates the ownership of that weather tile. When a weather tile is fulfilled, the owner gets back his cube(s).

The d6 dice is showing the bonus the player that finished a tile gets; it is either straight 3 or 4 points, or points based on the card types that were laid down underneath. Players can gain a good sum of points through the bonus dice if they manage to set things up correctly.

THE WEATHER TILES

The weather tiles that are laid down on the Central Board represent the upcoming weather that the Seers need to accurately predict; to match a weather card icon (villagers omens) to the weather tile icon. The cubes are then placed in the space beside the weather tile icon to indicate that it has been fulfilled and by whom.

The weather cards that match the icons on the weather tile are laid down underneath. When 2 – 4 cards (can be 2 double icon cards) have been matched, the weather tile is fulfilled and all participating players gain points as seen on the cards they laid down, the player that placed the final card needed also gains the bonus on the die above the weather tile.

THE BOX LID

The Box Lid is used to store the draw and discard decks in the basic game, as well as to keep track on the points that players receive during the game.

The Box lid has a more functional purpose in the Advanced game. This is where the Source is displayed and players can gain cards from during their turn.  When a player does a gain a Source action, they can pick any of the four cards and loose points equal to the number shown by the selected cards; 2,1,1 or 0 points.

The newly gained cards go the the player’s discard pile to the right of their playerboard.

The right space is the Trash pile, when a card is trashes it is permanently moved from the game

The point scoring thack is also used in the advanced game as well as in the basic game.
